Type One Energy announced today that it had successfully completed the first formal design review of Infinity Two, which is based on the world’s only implementable, peer-reviewed physics basis for a fusion power plant recently published by the prestigious Journal of Plasma Physics. The Infinity Two design is progressing in support of a potential fusion power plant project with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), using Type One Energy stellarator technology.

Type One Energy announced today that early results from its testing campaign confirm the essential design elements of the company’s groundbreaking high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet for use in stellarators. In a commercialization landmark for the fusion industry, Type One Energy entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to jointly develop plans for a potential TVA fusion power plant project in the Tennessee Valley region using Type One Energy stellarator fusion power technology. The 350 MWe fusion pilot power plant, named Infinity Two, offers a complementary source of base load electrical generation for the region as early as the mid-2030s. It has the potential to repurpose retired TVA fossil fuel power plant infrastructure in addition to being deployed onto greenfield sites in support of energy security and reliability.

Type One Energy announced today the final closing of its $82.4 million seed financing round, attracting a broad base of global investors to the Company and its FusionDirect program, which is pursuing a direct path to commercializing fusion energy. FusionDirect is intended to culminate in the launch of Type One Energy’s fusion pilot power-plant project with an owner/operating partner by 2030.

Type One Energy Group intends to locate to the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Bull Run Fossil Plant in Clinton, Tennessee, as the site for building Infinity One, the company’s stellarator fusion prototype machine. The construction of Infinity One could begin in 2025, following the completion of necessary environmental reviews, partnership agreements, required permits, and operating licenses.
